Emerald is the most valuable member of the beryl mineral family. Found in metamorphic rocks, the mode of crystal formation is restricted, making Emerald sizes larger than several carats extremely rare and costly. The finest color of Emerald is an intense medium-dark tone of green.
Soothing to the eyes, in ancient times, Emeralds were used to cure vision deficiencies and were generally thought to be a symbol of fertility, immortality and faith.
The principle source for Emerald is Columbia, although it also can be found elsewhere in South America and Africa.
